Take part in FUTURES Festival 2023

Researchers, are you interested in taking part in the FUTURES Festival taking place across September 2023? Take a look at the activities offering researchers the opportunity to get involved.

What is the FUTURES Festival?

FUTURES is a festival of discovery that celebrates the research and innovation taking place right across the South West of England, with over 300 researchers participating in a wide range of public events.

Why get involved?

FUTURES is a unique opportunity to engage a broad audience with your research. You’ll not only raise awareness about your research but also discuss ideas that may shape the research and its impacts on society and develop your skills in public engagement with research.

What is involved?

There are two types of activities in Bristol at FUTURES:

Research exhibits – Exciting hands-on exhibits will give you a platform to have conversations about your research and its relevance in answering societal and environmental problems to inspire children, families and individuals to be curious, think about how big challenges are overcome and consider becoming scientists and researchers.

Storytelling – Bring your research to life through the medium of storytelling, help break stereotypes of what it means to be a researcher and find your voice to master storytelling and produce compelling and entertaining stories.

When is FUTURES?

FUTURES will take place across various dates in September and October 2023.

FUTURES activities at Bristol

We are looking for researchers to be involved in several festival activities. These include:

  • Family Research Fair at Cabot Circus Shopping Centre – Saturday 16 September 2023, 12-4pm

“The best thing about FUTURES was inspiring the next generation” Researcher

You will be one of a small number of exhibits engaging shoppers with your hands-on activity, demo or simulation, designed to engage audiences in novel ways. You will attend training and receive support to develop an exhibit that shows why research is relevant to everyday life, and inspires people to be curious, think about how big challenges are overcome, and consider becoming scientists and researchers. You’ll develop skills to communicate your research to diverse audiences who might not usually engage with university activities and be able to explain what difference your research could make. Public Engagement/FUTURES staff will support this drop-in activity.
